The Brief Story
Of
SD Reflect – Solar Reflective Paint
We had cause to visit a Park Home Site in Lancashire on an extremely hot, sunny July Day, in 2006.
The heat made you feel that you were in the Gobi desert rather rural Lancashire, the Sun was so hot that even the shady trees gave little relief.
We entered the home and it was like walking into a Sauna. The lady had every window open, two fans on the go, and one of those Portable Air Conditioners humming and groaning at the back of the room..
They were all helping but it was still hot.
My colleague and I climbed into the furnace which doubled as our car, and whilst the Air Conditioner tried to kick in we started to talk about the problem.
Our minds turned to Reflective Glass Technology, we both new about it from a friend in the roofing industry, and as I drove she made the first of many phone calls.
Two months later we were working with one of the biggest companies in the world trying to finalise a formulation. Their chemists tried different formulations, with different colours, with different sizes of glass.
Then in September 2006 we had a breakthrough, a perfect balance of reflectivity, colour, and durability. We tested in Laboratories, on different kind of buildings and in a whole range of climatic conditions.
By January 2007 we new we had the finished product and we can bring this light reflective paint to both old and new customers.
This new paint solves the problem by reflecting the light and therefore the heat to keep buildings cool.
